London Economics has been involved with private and public sector clients in the application of competition economics to a number of diverse areas ranging from asessment of market power to quantification of cartel damages.
Our work in merger analysis is technically competent and makes use of merger simulation techniques and analysis of mergers in two-sided markets, to provide just two examples. Our work in assessment of market power has been applied to markets where straightforward market share analysis techniques cannot be relied on such as electricity markets, bidding markets and a number of network and regulated sectors.
We have particular experience and familiarity with UK competition enforcement through numerous previous projects for the OFT and the CC. The European Commission and a number of member state competition and regulatory agencies are also among our most frequent clients. Our Budapest office has been particularly active in a number of challenging competition cases in Eastern European markets.
Dr Paula Ramada has wide ranging experience advising clients in several areas of competition economics and leads London Economics’ Competition team at our London office. She has led a number of recent projects in the areas of merger analysis and is currently working in partnership with legal experts on the assessment of cartel damages in a number of high profile international cases.
Paula has managed and directed a large number of projects for the European Commission, the UK Government and both UK-based and European private clients. Her work has also included a wide range of topics in applied industrial economics, among others, the impact of regulatory interventions on markets and both theoretical and applied work in the area of Intellectual Property.
Prior to joining London Economics, Paula was a faculty member at Northwestern University and at the London Business School. Paula has a doctorate in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an undergraduate degree in economics from Nova University of Lisbon.
